"I started running in Jan '04 after my brother and father both died of brain tumors two days apart. It became my "therapy" and a way for me to deal with my sadness and anger. I'm not the fastest runner but I can run for hours because of my personal tragedies. October would be my dad & brother's birthdays so I decided to run my first marathon (Rushmore Marathon in Oct). I am taking pledges which I will then donate to a needy family (via our local cancer society) as a gift from Dad & Drew. I wanted to make it as positive as an experience for someone else as it has been me. You can read about my dad & brother's struggle at www.mybrotherdrew.com They taught me to NEVER GIVE UP!! "

"Hello, I live in Marseilles suburb. I'm a marathon enthusiast. I'm 42. I ran 5 marathons in France in 4 years. My goal is to run below 4 hours but this year, I failed. I'm looking for a penpal to chat around runnings, build up marathon and all topics around this sport. If you're interested in, please let you answer me."

"My story is neither unique nor particularly interesting. But it is mine. Started running about 15 years ago. Did pretty well as an age group runner. Ran 7 marathons, including Boston twice. Got hurt and had both knees scoped. Ran much slower but learned that I truly love the sport and am content to be able to just participate now. Harry"

"I just ran across this site. I am training to run my first marathon. It is my goal to get my first one in before I am 26. I only have 6 months to go! I ran across a Book called Non-Runner Marathon. Not that I am a non-runner, but I haven't run in awhile and I needed so me guide lines to follow so I don't over do it. I am not running my first marathon against a clock. I am running it for more of the self gratification I have heard about during the training anf after the run. I am so excited. I think that I will also have in my heart our very loved hero's of 911. They will be forever in my heart. Julia Bentley"

"I have not yet run a marathon but will be doing so this October 5, 2003. I am so scared. I am not really a runner. I have just begun training for this marathon and can barely squeek out 3 miles. I will let you know how the outcome is. thank!"

"I viewed my first marathon yesterday (Long Beach, CA 18th Marathon). What an emotional experience for me as a spectator. Went to mile 20 and got caught up in the race. Encouraged more runners than I can count, then went to mile 24 and continued my encouragement. Showed up at the finish line and spoke with a few of the runners I bonded with during the race. Now I have this crazy idea of participating myself next year. We'll see. "

"I went to the site for the Deadwood Trail Marathon that you're starting this year. I wish I had the time and means to get up there in June and run it. I think I could win my age group!!"

"Robert William Zerby St.Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands E-mail: doctorzerby@military.com I was born in 1948 and became interested in marathon running while I was a 1st Lt in the USMC. In my 20's my PR was established 2:36:34 (26.2 miles). I trained very hard to lower my PR but it never happened. Then a "calm" came over me ... the time was not as important as the fact that I could go out there every morning and do a nice jog for 60-75 minutes :-) I live for my daily run and I'm not at all concerned about times anymore. "Hi, wonderful website! I'm not yet a marathoner, but I'm training for the 2005 NYC Marathon. Do you want to know the reason? I'm 15 and I can run only 5K at the moment. I'll run my first race on March 24th, in Rome, it's a 5K. I hope I'll arrive to my REAL finish line, the MARATHON!"

"I'm a new runner and stumbled across your site. I don't have a Marathon story yet as I haven't run one. If I ever do I'll come back and give you my story!"
